I was wondering last day –
Why am I enjoying the downturn?
Today I got the answer at Seth Godin’s blog.
Because it brings around change. Status-quo is being challenged.
Things will not work the way they used to work. Innovation and hard work will score over luck and speculation.
It is a problem for those, who were lousy in their work.
It has not changed anything for the fit entrepreneurs and enterprises. In fact, it has just opened new opportunities for them. They will survive, for they remained grounded to reality. But, unfortunately, thousands of people took the sunny days for granted. And I am sure those people will wake up to this new world and realize – "Someone has moved their cheese".
I feel much safer today – for I know that my adaptability and hard work is setting me apart from the vulnerable one.
So, if you are a creator and someone who have always "been in action" and loves to be "in action", I bet you are enjoying these days!
hmm…i think i do enjoy downturn because it differentiates the best from average.
but still, if one is unfortunate enough to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, one might be impacted adversely…
ex: my prev company started layoff…i survived it…but too skeptic as whether the company will survive year end…so searched job, got one…joined here…there are rumours of layoff here…although i was smart enough to get a job in this recession without a pay cut or hike, if there is a layoff here and if they follow “last in first out”, then all my best skills also doesn’t have an impact…
maybe, it’ll help in getting another job or maybe i am just thinking too much 🙂
Dear ‘fan’,
You are right to a great extent. It is unfortunate that you may be adversely affected if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. But tell me one thing – who chooses the place? I do not want to be too critical or personal. But if you see what has happened in last few years – people have chosen jobs which simply more without thinking about the ‘return’ and ‘progress’ they are making for themselves. You might have been an exception, but most people have chosen their own destinies.
And even if they are in the wrong place, things will not go ‘absolutely’ wrong with them 😉 There is no ultimate bliss or ultimate doom.
And about downturn. I think it does not differentiates best from average. It differentiates average who has worked hard and invested in himself from the ones who have spent more time enjoying the ‘sun’ and did not invested in themselves when they had the opportunity to do so.
