I am truly amazed at how society at large has embraced entrepreneurship over the last couple of decades.

However, I find that many aspiring entrepreneurs are still choosing the old, matured, and ‘less risky’ domains. For example, I still find founders building web design, digital marketing and bespoke software development companies.

The challenge is that these domains are saturating or are too competitive. Here odds are stacked against them.

When I started in 1997, the Internet was new in the country. It made sense to start a digital service company (though I believe I could have taken a better bigger bet). So I jumped on the digital bandwagon even before ‘digital’ became a wave. Hence even after missing most of the shots I took, my business rose with the wave.

If today someone wants to build a business, one needs to look at emerging sectors like space 🚀, nano technology, material science, clean-tech, biotech, metaverse, neural interface, artificial intelligence, etc. or even more cutting edge technologies which people are not yet talking about.

To build business in future opportunities, one needs:

– patience (it will take decades to build this out!)
– exposure (knowing what’s happening)
– ability to take risk (start as early as possible, and with as little capital as possible)

I believe these future businesses give one better chance to succeed.

What are you building today?
