One can go to work with a combination of hands, brain and heart at work. And, that determines what he delivers and creates value for the organisation.

Hands: refers to “doers”. They will do what they have been asked to do. They are consistent and will keep delivering what they do well over time. They do a lot of heavy lifting consistently, which ensures that the company capitalize on its competitive edge.

Brains: refers to “thinkers”. These are people who will find solutions, solve problems and bring new ideas on the table. These are the people who innovate and makes the company/product stands out.

Heart: refers to “passion and ownership”. These are people who will put their soul at work, feel strongly towards the company, and its success. They are the anchors who hold the company together.

People can bring a combination of these traits at work. It is critical for a leader to understand what each individual brings, and how they are leveraged (what roles, responsibilities and opportunities they are given) and rewarded.

Each trait has its importance. And certain combinations are critical in certain positions.

Have you looked at people with this lens? How do you think you can leverage people with various combinations of the above traits? Do share your observations and thoughts.
