A decade ago, no one imagined AI tools like ChatGPT would write code, create designs, or draft business strategies. Today, entire industries are being disrupted overnight—customer support, software development, digital marketing, and even market research.

Tech professionals who built careers on a single programming language or a niche skill are now finding that the world has moved on. Lately, the pace of change has grown exponentially, and is dizzying.

I often get asked by anxious peofessionals – “What skill will ensure that I remain relevant in these times?”

I think it is a very relevant and broad subject, and here are some thoughts.

🔹 Soft Skills > Hard Skills – Your skills & knowledge. But remember, in tech, hard skills and abilities have an expiry date. Hence, move to soft skills – ability to communicate effectively, ability to articulate and set the context, problem solving (connecting the dots), learning (and unlearning – very imp), and filtering signal from noise.

🔹 Adapt or Perish – Never say never. Ability to evolve is a superpower. How well one adapt will be more important than what you know today. Experience and strongly held opinions can result in a closed mind. Few billion people are logging their brains and emotions online. You cannot precisely predict what will come out of it. You can however respond to it like a winner.

🔹 Karma, Reputation & Relationship – The trust and goodwill you build is your biggest asset. A laid-off engineer with strong professional relationships gets job referrals before even applying. Your network is your net worth. Build strong connections and pay it forward. Quality > Quantity.

💡 How to Stay Relevant & Future-Proof Your Career?

✅ Stay Curious – Learn about AI, blockchain, or quantum computing—even if they don’t directly relate to your current role. Invest in your soft skills.

✅ Be Open to Change – The “safe” jobs of today might be disrupted tomorrow.

✅ Invest in Relationships – Help others, share knowledge, and collaborate. One genuine LinkedIn post, one coffee chat, or one mentorship session could open doors when you need them the most.

The world will keep changing. But those who nurture their abilities, embrace adaptability, and cultivate good karma will always find opportunities. 🚀
