There has been a lot of talk over the BIG IT talent pool in India. Every bureaucrat and market research agency in the country shows towering numbers of colleges and students that they produce.

But the burning question is – Is this talent employable?

The biggest challenge Indian IT industry faces today is the ever-growing gap between graduating engineers and employable graduates. If not checked in time, it might result in a lost opportunity for India Inc. as opportunities will not wait and move towards economies who provide more employable talent at the best ROI.

The main reasons for this gap are:

  • Low motivation for top experts to take up teaching as a profession.
  • Outdated syllabus, course curriculum, infrastructure, teaching methodologies and content!
  • Little or no emphasis in making people "life long learners", primarily because education is spoon fed in most institutions.
  • Priviledge to "best education" has been made available to selected class.
  • Poor use of technology to spread education to rural areas

There is a lot to rant about the negatives, which we all do. I never liked the way education is imparted in our country and always wanted to grab the first opportunity to change the same.

I am taking a humble step towards my dream project by launching Indus Net Academy in the third week of June 2007. I have coined the slogan as "New Age Education", which is timeless and conveys the feeling behind the project. The initial academic setup will be in a small area of 1000 sq feet, which will be extended as we mature and generate more demand.

Indus Net Academy has been housed in SDF Building, Sector V, Salt Lake, Kolkata for the following reasons:

  • Close to the industry!
  • Easy availability of successful professionals who might like to share their experience and knowledge.
  • Ease of management, since Indus Net Technologies is also located on 4th and 5th floor of the same building.

The purpose of Indus Net Acaemy can be summerised as follows:

  • Create employable talent
  • Continued education for working professionals
  • Accumulation & distribution of knowledge
  • Rural education

(From now onwards the team behind Indus Net Acaemy is being termed as "We" instead of "I" since many key members of Indus Net Technologies thinks about the academy the same way that I do and are working tirelessly to make it a success.

Initially, Indus Net Academy will start with career oriented professionally taught courses on:- Web Design, Web Development & Internet Marketing. The course will be taught by experts who are practising these subjects at Indus Net Technologies and serving clients from all over the world. Teaching methodology will be a mix of classroom based core concept delivery, self paced study, research and discussion on important ideas, lab sessions and practical tips from practitioners of "how things are done in real life".

We are further backing up the courses taught in Indus Net Academy with guaranteed jobs by joining hands with companies who need the "industry-ready talent".

Since we have in-house professional talent available in Indus Net Technologies, we chose to start with subjects related to Internet industry. As we move ahead, we expect professionals from different walks of life to be a part of this movement and make a difference – to make the "new age education" dream a reality!

Will keep you posted. Looking forward to a bright future…

  1. Wish you the very best in this endeavor!

We, the industry people, really need to recruit candidates who might not have covered 20 subjects for the heck for it but 2-3 subjects which they know well and which have real-life applications.

  2. Abhishek: Congrats on getting set up with this – you’re on the right track with this vision and I’m sure you will do really well. Best, Roj

  3. Do you guarantee u wont hire candidates trained at ur place …and placed elsewhere…coz they would be in so mad abt indusnet they they will always compare it and trying to join it …it will only increase talash market share..

  4. Hello Sunny,

Thank you for leaving a comment on Indus Net Academy.

Firstly, it would have been nice if you could have left behind your email address so that I could have communicated to you on a personal level.

    To answer your questions:

    1. I do not guarantee that I will not hire people I train. In fact I will hire people I train. Training is about making them employable. After that it is upon you, company X or Indus Net Technologies to attract and retain that talent to deliver work as per client needs.

    2. I do not see any reason why a person will be mad to work at Indus Net Technologies. We are definitely an employer of choice. However we cannot hire 500 people we will train in a year!

    3. If anyhing increases Talash’s (Indus Net Technologies) market share, whats wrong in it? I feel that the web development industry is a large ocean and if everyone takes few bucket out of it, it wont effect positively or negatively the other person.

I hope you take our initiative in a positive light.

  5. Hi,

Just bumped on to your site while browsing the internet…didn’t know that you’ve got this training academy setup…Truly a boon, if even a fraction of the huge talent pool can be honed and made more employable.

Wish you all the luck…When does the next batch pass out?? Would definitely be interested in employing and evaluating the skills.

  7. Hi,
I have recently joined a course in Web Designing in your institute and am happy and satisfied with the training imparted..But the problem is that i have got a job last week and will be joing from next week.I want to complete the course at your academy as this will help me in my career but doing the job and the course in the course timings will not be possible as the timings are from 2.30-4.30,and i would not get leave at that time to continue the course.
Is it possible that i finish the cousse by attending the clasees on weekends.I really dont want to end this course and would be really grateful if you couuld arrange for something of this kind.
    With regards-Radhika Jhawar

  8. Hello Radhika,

    Congratulations!
We love to see our students being successful. I am also happy to see that you are enjoying the course. This is the way education should be like.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer alternate time slot, as all classes are taken by professional web designers and it is impossible for us to engage them seperately to do seperate classes for you.

However, I will really recommend that you should complete the course before taking up a job and spend more time in learning the finer points of web design including layout design, web standards, css2.0, xhtml, usability (most important in my opinion) and conversion.

However the final decision lies with you. If you need help or personal advice please contact my reception for an appointment.

  9. Dear sir, I want to join your academy to persue a web programming course. Now I have some questions in my mind. Please help me……

Sir, How much possibility to get a job in web programming field in next 2 or 3 year?

Secondly If i study hard or work hard can I expect a job from the market in this field?

Thirdly what posts I can aquire in this field and what is the payscales?

    1. Hello Ayan,

Web design / programming is a very fast growing field and has tremendous job opportunities. 2-3 year down the line, I expect that apart from agencies, even medium to large sized corporates will start maintaining their in-house web teams to manage and develop their websites.

As you can see there will be a lot of opportunities, I feel job will not be a problem for the right candidate.

Generally people enter this field as an Associate / Trainee and can scale up to Project Manager. However, if the person can acquire skills to understand and manage business, his growth curve is anybody’s guess.

I generally do not like to commend on pay scale. I am a firm believer that if a person is doing a job primarily for money, he will (most of the times) not put in his heart in the job. So do a course on web development if you love the subject. Money will come proportionate to the success you achieve.

  10. If i do a training in Indus Net Academy,

can i surely get a job in php?

how they can offer 100% job gurantee?
    even in this time?
    are they fraud?

    1. Hello Debesh Maitra,

Indus Net Academy never makes false commitments. Your job depends upon your performance. Even today, good programmers are in demand as the Indian IT industry is facing this tough situation primarily because of undeserving candidates getting plush jobs!

      Abhishek

    1. I find such questions surprising and amusing.

How can you pre-determine salary for a particular position. Salary is decided on several factors including your capability, knowledge, ability to perform, innovativeness, educational background and experience.

      There is no magic formula.

      Regards
